Reading at the Going Wimax blog, Ari Zoldan wrote about a new wimax-enabled technology called Civita that will allow Wimax connectivity in the car. He starts off by saying “Imagine a day when you can verbally command your car to synchronize a playlist of your favorite artist’s music”. Now that sounds interesting, I am one who always listens to music while driving and to be able to verbally control my playlists is something I would definatly want to have. The article at Twice mentions how its done:

“Civita uses a voice-driven search engine that recognizes complex verbal commands such as “Play me something by Frank Sinatra,” or Make a playlist of 1960s jazz” or “Make a playlist of 1977 Billboard hits,” allowing simple search and control of the Internet while driving, said spokesman Andrew Carrington. “

But not only that, this new technology has the ability to also read back your emails aloud and communicate with your home PC.

With Wimax starting to be widely deployed I guess we’ll start hearing about alot of new applications and technologies that will use it. I look forward to hearing about more.

Why am I not surprised? Coming to think of it, I can’t seem to figure out what could have been the invention of the year besides the iPhone. It was the most talk about device throughout the whole year, since its announcement back in January.

The iPhone being the invention of the year is posted in an article (here) by Time Magazine. I agree with the author who mentioned some of the negative aspects of the phone and I may also add some of my own: no keypad (I am not a big fan of the touchscreen and am sure there are alot like me), no 3G ( with around 172 million 3G subscribers worldwide, this might not be their first choice) and its locked onto a certain operator (even though many attempts to unlock it were successful). You can find in the article, the 5 reasons why the iPhone is considered the invention of the year.
